Alexis Sanchez was back to Arsenal training on Tuesday after landing in London. The superstar has been on a prolonged break to help him recuperate from a bout of flu.
He was earlier scheduled to report to the club’s London Colney training ground on Sunday but was allowed to stay in Chile after he fell ill. Arsene Wenger said the forward was down with ‘the flu’.
The forward captioned a picture he posted of himself and his two dogs on a London runaway: “Back in London!”
On Sunday, Sanchez’s lawyer Ruben Inostroza Povea uploaded a photo of the duo getting ready to fly from Chile’s Santiago airport.
Povea’s Instagram picture indicated that the trip would include a stopover in Paris, France where Sanchez is believed to have renewed his British work permit.
The 28-year-old has so far been unable to sign a new Arsenal deal and has been linked with a switch City this summer.
Wenger has disclosed that he has been communicating with the former Barcelona striker regularly via text conversation, but confessed that he wasn’t certain whether the playmaker will be in good shape for the commencement of the season.
After Arsenal was beaten 2-1 by Sevilla in the final Emirates Cup game, Wenger was quoted saying: “He comes back on Monday night,” adding: “We don’t know, we have to assess his physical state.
Wenger spoke after Arsenal thrashed Benfica 5-2 to win Emirates Cup, reiterating that Sanchez will not be up for grabs this summer.
He said: “He has flu, yes. I had him on text yesterday. There’s no development (on his future), he is staying, of course.”
Arsenal will battle it out with Premier Champions, Chelsea this Sunday at Wembley in the Community Shield.
