In spite of a 2-0 thrashing, Phil Foden’s performance against Manchester United in Houston, U.S. was beyond his year – even though that is not surprising at all to regulars at the Academy Stadium in the entire 2016/17 campaign.

The Stockport-born midfielder was indeed an important member of Manchester City’s Under 18’s as they made their way to the FA Youth Cup finals after clearing all that were ahead of them in the Under 18s Premier League North division.

The 17-year old scored 11 goals from midfield and performed stunningly for the teen Blues. Things were no different at NRG Stadium as the trend continued there.

An impressed Guardiola admitted that the teenager could probably remain with the first team when the pre-season tour ends. But for the youngster, the promise of the usual first team game time at Everton will be too tempting for him and Manchester City to turn down.  Ross Barklays will be moving from Everton to Tottinham, and this would be the best opportunity for Foden to not only become more confident in the Premier League, but get valuable first team experience as well.
